This July 28 and 29, celebrate an unforgettable Independence Day (Fiestas Patrias) at the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, located on Peru’s north coast in the ancient district of Magdalena de Cao, just one hour from Trujillo. It’s a place where history, ancestral art, and living culture come together to celebrate what defines us as a nation.
Before sharing everything you can enjoy onsite, remember you can also begin your journey digitally. El Brujo offers two virtual tours: the classic route, ideal for discovering the main highlights of the complex, and the specialized route, perfect for those who want to dive deeper into its history.
For two days, El Brujo will host a special program designed to enjoy with family, friends, or as a couple. An experience for all the senses, where heritage truly comes alive.

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the 5th El Brujo Handicraft & Tourism Fair will take place—an open space to explore local crafts, traditional food, and cultural projects from the surrounding community.
Artisans and entrepreneurs who participate in this fair are part of El Brujo’s monthly tourism roundtables and showcase their work after meeting selection criteria. It’s the perfect opportunity to acquire unique handmade pieces, meet local creators, and taste the authentic flavors of the region.
The fair will also feature local and regional artists on stage, with traditional dance performances such as marinera and a choral ensemble. This platform offers emerging talents the chance to share their creativity during the national holidays, enriching the visitor experience with music, dance, and diverse artistic expressions.

On July 28 and 29, El Brujo will offer free guided tours from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (last group, max. 30 people). Accompanied by trained local guides, visitors will explore the archaeological zone and its rich history.

One of El Brujo’s most beloved initiatives is the Talents of Cao Ensemble, born from community art workshops launched in 2023 for local children and teens.
During Independence Day 2025, the ensemble will present theater and music performances that blend tradition and creativity. These shows not only entertain but also highlight art as a powerful channel for cultural identity.

Would you like a unique keepsake from your visit? This year, you can take a photo dressed as the majestic Lady of Cao or a brave Moche warrior. Share your experience on Instagram with the hashtag #FiestasPatriasenElBrujo and tag @ElBrujo.
You’ll also have the chance to paint the iconic tattoos of the Lady of Cao on your skin and learn more about their meaning and symbolism.

Extend your visit to explore the charming town of Magdalena de Cao. Stroll its traditional streets, visit the Main Square, the church, and the Pasaje de la Cultura, and experience the daily life of a vibrant community that safeguards one of Peru’s most important archaeological treasures.
Meet local artisans, guardians of ancestral techniques; taste the famous chicha de año, an ancient drink prepared with recipes passed down for generations; and enjoy authentic northern Peruvian cuisine in its restaurants. Magdalena de Cao is a destination full of heritage and flavor.
Reconnect with history, support local art, savor northern gastronomy, and celebrate Independence Day 2025 in community at El Brujo Archaeological Complex.
Here, the celebration goes beyond honoring Peru’s independence—it’s a tribute to our cultural identity, forged over millennia by ancient civilizations, living traditions, and the resilient spirit of our people. At El Brujo, every corner is a meeting point with who we are and what unites us as Peruvians.
