From July 22 to 27, 2025, the district of Magdalena de Cao will once again host the Mochica International Muralist Festival, considered one of the most important mural art events in Peru. This edition, organized by the International Movement of Ancestral Arts Pachamuralistas, will be supported and sponsored by the Wiese Foundation, and will feature the participation of approximately 25 mural artists from various regions of Peru and abroad, who will create artistic interventions in different community spaces.

As part of the scheduled activities, the artists will visit the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, where they will take part in a specially organized guided tour. The goal of this visit is to provide them with an enriching cultural experience, allowing them to learn firsthand about the historical and cultural significance of the site—home to 14,000 years of human occupation—and to use it as inspiration for the works they will create during their stay. Complementary materials such as photographs, iconography, and audiovisual resources will also be provided, along with a visit to the archaeological storage areas accompanied by specialist archaeologists.

During the festival, artists will carry out interventions on the facades of houses and other key spaces in Magdalena de Cao. Their creations will be inspired by Moche culture, the iconic Lady of Cao, and the rich heritage of the El Brujo Archaeological Complex. This artistic process seeks to strengthen community identity, highlight the local legacy, and foster pride among residents through a dialogue between tradition and contemporary art.

The event will conclude with a central ceremony on July 27 at 3:30 p.m., featuring the participating artists, local authorities, and community members.

At the Wiese Foundation and the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, we proudly support cultural initiatives like this one, which promote identity, creativity, and community engagement—consolidating art as a transformative tool for Peru’s cultural and social development.
